Mid Dunbartonshire Named Scotland's Best Place to Retire
Fresh from the national spotlight of Milton of Campsie's recent Escape to the Country feature, our area is once again being recognised for exactly the qualities that make it so special. Mid Dunbartonshire, the constituency covering much of our patch including Milngavie, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Lennoxtown, and Milton of Campsie, has just been named the best place in Scotland to retire, according to a new index from Legal & General.
WHAT IS THE L&G RETIREMENT INDEX?
Legal & General analysed areas right across Britain, scoring them against six pillars that shape a happy later life: housing, health, social and community connections, financial security, access to nature, and local amenities. Mid Dunbartonshire came out on top in Scotland, performing particularly strongly on health, access to green space, and overall wellbeing among its over-65 population.
WHY HERE?
It's not hard to see why. This is an area that offers the best of both worlds: quick access into Glasgow, paired with rolling countryside, the Campsie Fells, and a genuine sense of community that's increasingly hard to find. Bearsden in particular continues to grow in appeal, with its excellent amenities and strong transport links making it a natural draw for buyers looking to put down roots for the long term. And with Milton of Campsie and Lennoxtown already having their moment on national television this year, the message is clear: people are noticing what we've always known about this part of the world.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN IF YOU'RE THINKING OF MOVING?
Recognition like this tends to bring increased interest, and increased interest tends to bring increased demand. If you've been considering downsizing, moving closer to family, or simply finding a home better suited to your next chapter, there's rarely been a better moment to explore what's available across Mid Dunbartonshire. Equally, if you're thinking of selling, this kind of national recognition is exactly the sort of thing that helps a property stand out. Buyers relocating specifically for retirement are often looking for well-presented homes with good access to amenities and nature, precisely what this area has just been recognised for offering.
